Rental Passport preparation
Document workspaceScan rental documents on your phone
A phone scan is ready to consider sending only after you have opened the saved file and checked its complete contents. Use one capture checklist for both phones, with separate instructions for the app and storage location you choose.

Short answer
Use a documented scanning option, capture every required page, review the crop and orientation, then save and reopen the PDF. Check where it was saved and whether that location syncs. This is a preparation workflow, not a promise that every recipient accepts a scan.

Useful context
Decide what needs scanning
Start with the recipient's request and the document you actually hold. If the issuer already supplied a readable electronic PDF, consider whether that source is more appropriate than photographing a printed copy. Ask about any required original, certified copy or file format before substituting a scan. Do not build a new document by combining unrelated pages simply to make an upload look complete.
For the walkthrough below, imagine a fictional two-page letter: page one contains the main statement and page two contains further details. It is a capture example, not an actual applicant's record. Count both pages before you begin and decide which folder will hold the final copy. Have a clear, evenly lit surface available and remove unrelated paperwork from the camera view.
Useful context
Choose the app and the intended destination
On iPhone or iPad, Files > More > Scan Documents can create a multipage scan that you save to a chosen location.

The exact labels can vary with the installed version. Follow the current instructions shown by the app and check the destination you select. Choosing a cloud folder may mean the resulting file syncs there; using a phone does not by itself establish a local-only process.
On Android, use Scan in Files by Google, review the crop and page count, then find the saved PDF in Scanned.
Scan documents with Files by Google: Files by Google Help · Checked
Files by Google and Drive scanning are different storage workflows.
Scan documents with Google Drive: Android phone & tablet: Google Drive Help · Checked
Keep the Android instructions attached to the named app. The separate Google Drive scanning method saves to Drive, so do not describe that method as local-only. Use a destination intentionally rather than assuming that two apps with a Scan control have the same storage behaviour. These are first-party documented procedures, not a report of a mobile-device test.

Action plan
Capture both pages and inspect the boundaries
Lay the first page flat and keep the camera steady. Inspect the detected edges before accepting the capture. Include the complete relevant page, including details near the margins. Retake a blurred or shadowed image instead of treating a filter as a substitute for readable text. Do not use cleanup features to erase material information from the record.
Add the second page, check its orientation and verify the intended order. If you accidentally capture a page twice, compare the pages carefully before removing the duplicate. Use the following fictional control sheet to turn the camera captures into a checkable handoff:
- Expected source pages: two. Saved output pages: confirm two, in the source order.
- Page one: all four edges present; name, statement date and small print readable.
- Page two: continuation details present; no missing bottom line or accidental rotation.
- Final filename: choose a clear description and version. Destination: record the folder and whether you selected a syncing location.
Working checklist
Open the saved PDF rather than trusting the preview
After saving, locate the PDF and open that file. Confirm the page count and move through each page. Read a name, a date and a small line of text at a comfortable viewing size. Check that the page edges were not lost and that the second page belongs to the same record. Do not rely only on a camera thumbnail or the first page displayed inside a note.
Check the filename and chosen folder again before sharing. If you kept drafts or retakes, make sure the final picker selection points to the reviewed copy. Keep private records out of a public demonstration, shared photo example or unnecessary online editor. A readable scan does not verify the document's factual claims, and this guide does not establish a universal acceptance rule.
Key points
Use the right handoff for the reviewed copy
If the PDF is too large for the actual destination, use the separate file-size guide and compare any resulting copy with the source. If searching or copying the text is a problem, use the OCR guide for that different task. Compression, text recognition and camera capture should each be checked for their own effects rather than applied automatically to every file.
Before sending, confirm the property, recipient and selected filename. Keep the original source separately so that you can return to it if the recipient asks a question about the copy.

Questions
Common questions
Clear answers for the decisions people usually pause on.
Is a scan automatically acceptable for a rental application?
Check the particular request and accepted format. This walkthrough explains capture and review; it does not replace a recipient requirement for another kind of record.
What should I do if the last line is missing?
Return to the source and retake the affected page with the complete relevant edges visible. Reopen the saved replacement and confirm that the right page was replaced.
How should I choose between local storage and a cloud folder?
Make that choice deliberately and review the selected destination. Do not infer local-only storage merely from taking the scan on a phone.
